September 1, 2004 – Alex Prentice turned himself in Tuesday after learning that charges against him in the shooting death of Marvin Augustine, July 11, outside the Moonraker Bar in downtown Christiansted, had been upgraded to first-degree murder.
According to Sgt. Thomas Hannah, police spokesman, bail was set at $500,000 and Prentice was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
He was scheduled to have an advisory hearing today. Hannah said an arraignment for the 20-year-old William's Delight resident would be held within two weeks.
Rahede Teague, 23,of Bassin Triangle, and Darnel Harvey of Constitutional Hill also face murder charges in the death of Augustine. Reportedly, Augustine had gone to the assistance of another male in a brawl outside the bar. He was shot in the abdomen and died a week later. The event was captured on security cameras.
Another death that was originally a suspected homicide is now being treated as a death by natural causes. Police thought foul play might be involved when William Scoria, 62, was found dead in his Long Reef condo on Aug. 20 and blood was splattered on the walls. However, it was later determined that Scoria probably had a seizure and hit his head during the seizure.
