Aug. 10, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued Aug. 9 has these announcements:

Fall Semester 2004 Notes:
— Returning Student Tuition/Fee Payment Deadline is Aug. 9
Aug. 9 is the last day for returning UVI students to pay tuition and fees for the fall 2004 semester. UVI fall semester 2004 classes begin Aug. 19.

Editor's note: In a special release issued Aug. 10, UVI has extended the fall semester tuition and fee payment until 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13. The deadline was extended, according to UVI Registrar Robert Fontaine, because of demand and computer processing delays. The extension covers returning students at UVI's St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses. For more information call 693-1160.]
— University and Faculty Convocations Scheduled Aug. 16
UVI's Fall Convocation – for the entire university community – is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 16. The sessions will be videoconferenced between Teacher Education Rooms 101 and 213 on St. Thomas and Evans Center Room 407 on St. Croix.
UVI's faculty is scheduled to return to campus and participate in the faculty convocation on Aug. 16 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The faculty convocation will be videoconferenced between Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110) and Teacher Education Room 101 on St. Thomas and Evans Center Room 401 on St. Croix. — Faculty Orientation Schedule – St. Thomas Campus
The orientation for new full-time faculty on the St. Thomas campus will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in Teacher Education Room T-101.
The orientation for part-time faculty St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110).
— Faculty Orientation Schedule – St. Croix Campus
The orientation for new full-time faculty on the St. Croix campus will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, in Evans Center Room 505.
The orientation for part-time faculty on the St. Croix campus is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, in Evans Center Room 408.
— New Student Orientation Schedules Aug. 16 – 19
New student orientation is scheduled for Aug. 16 through 19. Complete orientation schedules for UVI's St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses are available on the UVI Web site (link below). Information is also available by calling 692-4158 on St. Croix or 693-1150 on St. Thomas.
— UVI Schedules English and Math Placement Tests
Details of English and Mathematics placement test administered by UVI and contact numbers are available on the UVI Web site.

Freshmen students planning to enroll for UVI's fall 2004 semester who scored less than 500 on the verbal portion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test or less than 21 on the ACT-English test are required to take English placement tests to determine appropriate placement. English Placement test are scheduled as follows:
St. Thomas Campus – Tuesday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m. to noon in CA Building Room 302
St. Croix Campus – Saturday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m. to noon in Evans Center on the 300 level
Mathematics
Freshmen students planning to enroll for UVI's fall 2004 semester who scored less than 490 on the math portion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test or less than 20 on the ACT-Math test are required to take the Mathematics Diagnostic and Placement Test to determine appropriate placement. Math placement tests are scheduled as follows:
St. Croix Campus – Saturday, Aug. 14, 2 to 4 p.m. in Evans Center on the 300 level.
St. Thomas Campus – Monday, Aug. 16, 2 to 4 p.m. in CA Building rooms 305 and 306
Reichhold Season Continues With Oliver Samuels from Aug. 13 to 15
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts 2004 season continues on Friday, Aug. 13, at Island Center on St. Croix with a performance by Oliver Samuels & Company in Patrick Brown's comedy "Christopher Cum-Buck-Us." The production moves to St. Thomas' Reichhold Center with shows scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 15. All shows begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets are available on St. Croix at People's Drug Store (Sunny Isles), Pier 69 (Frederiksted), Urban Threadz (Christiansted), the Reichhold Center ticketing office via telephone and the UVI Bookstore. On St. Thomas tickets are available at Modern Music (both locations), Krystal Gifts Galore (Tutu Park Mall), Parrot Fish (Back Street), the UVI Bookstore and the Reichhold Center ticketing office. UVI Library Hours Posted for St. Thomas, St. Croix Campuses
The Ralph Paiewonsky Library on the St. Thomas campus is observing the following schedule through Aug. 18:
— Open – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays
— Closed – Saturdays and Sundays
The St. Croix Campus Library is observing the following schedule through Aug. 18:
— Open – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays
— Closed – Saturdays and Sundays
Annual St. Croix Hike and Beach Picnic Planned Aug. 22
The annual St. Croix campus student, faculty and staff hike and beach picnic is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22. The event is also open to UVI family and friends. The hike begins at Point Udall and ends at Cramers' Park, with the picnic following. Buses will leave campus at 8:15 a.m. to transport students and staff as necessary to Point Udall. A short interfaith service will be held at Point Udall immediately before the hike begins. For more information and to sign-up call the St. Croix Chancellor's office at 692-4000 or send e-mail.
Starfest Featured Each Monday on WTJX-TV
The Virgin Islands' best singers and dancers are featured each Monday in STARfest on WTJX Public Television. The program includes highlights from past STARfests and airs at 8 p.m. It is offered in collaboration with UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts.
Contestants Sought for Miss UVI 2004-2005; Competition Set Oct. 30
UVI is recruiting female students interested in participating in the Miss UVI 2004-2005 competition. Miss UVI serves as a student ambassador for the university and receives several valuable prizes including a scholarship covering tuition, and room and board for two semesters. The deadline to apply is Monday, Aug. 30. The competition scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts. For more information, call the student activities offices at 693-1111 on St. Thomas or 692-4188 on St. Croix.
