Weed and Seed Holding 'Night Out' Event Aug. 10

Aug. 4, 2004 – The Grove Place Weed and Seed program will observe National Night Out with activities next Tuesday.
The night begins at 5:30 p.m. with a march from the Eulalie R. Rivera Development School to the Isaac Boynes Recreational Complex. At the recreational complex, McGruff the Crime Dog will make an appearance.
Former Territorial Court Judge Alphonso Andrews will be the guest speaker. The Holy Ghost Deliverance Ministry and Xtaushun Band will perform. Xtaushun was the road march winner at the 2003-04 Crucian Christmas Festival.
Police Commissioner Elton Lewis and the local Weed and Seed coordinator, Denise Lewis, asked in a release issued on Wednesday that people participate in the evening's activities in the hope of ridding their communities of crime and the criminal element.
The National Association of Town Watch founded Night Out 21 years ago as an annual occasion for community members to reclaim their streets from criminals and to promote police-community partnerships. The nationally designated date for this year was Aug. 3 – Tuesday — but observances are being held at other times across the nation as well. For more information, visit the Town Watch Web site.
