Teachers Hired in Last Year Must Sign New Offers

July 23, 2004 – All public school teachers hired during the 2003-04 school year must sign new teaching employment offers by Aug. 20 to resume work in the fall, according to Alscess Lewis-Brown, the Education Department's human resources director.
She said in a news release that the teachers were hired for one year with the stipulation that they must complete the Praxis I examination and take a course in Virgin Islands history.
The Praxis I exam measures reading, writing and mathematics skills.
Lewis-Brown said in the release that the teachers must submit proof of having taken the exam and of having completed the course. She could not be reached for more information.
