July 24, 2004 – With the Public Works Department launching its annual Pre-Storm Season Debris Clean-up and Removal on Monday, St. John residents have the weekend to get their yards cleaned up.
If they don't, those odd pieces of wood and what not can become missiles during a storm.
Residents are asked to separate their items or debris. Put metal in one pile, plastic in another and appliances in still another. Residents should remove the galvanized aluminum from the wood purlins or rafters on roof parts.
Public Works will not pick up tires, batteries, paint, or used oil. Instead, residents can take all used oil to the igloos at the Susannaberg transfer station.
On Monday, Public Works crews will pickup debris on the island's East End including Hansen Bay, Haulover and Zootenvaal.
Crews will target the central section of Coral Bay on Tuesday. This includes Estate Carolina, including the Kinghill Road area, Gerda Marsh Road, the southeast section of Bordeaux Road, Little Plantation, Penn Point, Estate Emmaus, Coral Bay Marine, and Upper Carolina.
On Wednesday, crews will work on the south side of Coral Harbor, including Sander's Gut, Calabash Boom, Quacco and Zimmerman, Friis Bay, Hard Labor, John's Folly, Concordia, and Mandahl.
Crews will head toward Cruz Bay on Thursday. They'll pick up at Mamey Peak, the northwest section of Bordeaux Road, Adrian, Susannaberg, Beverhoutberg, Gifft Hill, San Souci, and Rendezvous.
Residents in Fish Bay, Chocolate Hole, Great Cruz Bay, and Power Boyd will have trash pick up on Friday.
On Aug. 2, crews will work on Upper Contant, Route 103, Serendip, Cyril Anthony Road, Enighed, and in the Pine Peace area of Contant.
They will work in the rest of Enighed on Aug. 3. The areas include Cactus Hill, Hill Street, Flag Hill, Frank Bay, The Valley, downtown Cruz Bay, Pastory, and the north side of Bethany to Supreme's Corner.
Work wraps up on Aug. 4 with crews picking up near Bethany Church and Penn's Apartments, Route 10, Pastory, and Grunwald.
