July 1, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:

UVI to Close for Emancipation Day and Independence Day
UVI will be closed this Friday, July 2, in observance of V.I. Emancipation Day and also on Monday, July 5, in observance of U.S. Independence Day. UVI offices will reopen and classes will resume on Tuesday, July 6.
dateline: UVI Features Commencement, Global Leaders, SBDC Awards
The latest issue of dateline: UVI – the University's monthly newsletter – is now available on the UVI web site. The issue covers 2004 Commencement, the Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders, and recent UVI-Small Business Development Center award recipients on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. Contestants Sought for Miss UVI 2004-2005; Competition Set Oct. 30
The university is recruiting female students interested in participating in the Miss UVI 2004-2005 competition. Miss UVI serves as a student ambassador for the university and receives several valuable prizes including a scholarship covering tuition, room and board for two semesters. The deadline to apply is Monday, Aug. 30. The competition scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts. For more information, call the student activities offices at 693-1111 on St. Thomas or 692-4188 on St. Croix.
