June 2, 2004 – Drake Seat Road on St. Thomas will be closed for a week and a half for widening starting next Wednesday.
The segment of Route 40, Drake Seat Road, between Route 35, Louisenhoj Castle and Route 37, Hull Bay Road, will be closed to through traffic.
The work entails the widening of the road on that section.
Wayne D. Callwood, Department of Public Works commissioner, said, "Consideration in scheduling this work has been given to the days with the least amount of cruise ship arrivals."
The road will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, through Saturday, June 12, and then Monday June 14 through Friday, June 18. During these days, and between construction hours, Route 35, Mafolie Road, will be reopened to two-way alternating traffic.
According to a press release from the Department of Public Works, flaggers will assist with traffic control for the duration of the work. Access will be provided to property owners and emergency vehicles at fill times during road closures. Callwood urges motorists to proceed with caution through the affected areas.
