Caribbean Speakers Featured at UVI Forums

May 29, 2004 – The public is invited to attend two forums which are part of the Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders in the Caribbean, an intense two-week institute hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands.
The World Forum will be held from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus. The topic is "Can Small Countries in the 21st Century Shape Their Destiny?" Speakers at the World Forum will include Dr. Patrick Lewis, Antiguan ambassador to the United Nations; Dr. Robert Millette, director of the Global Studies Institute at Lincoln University and ambassador-at-large from Grenada; the U.S. Virgin Islands Representative for External Affairs, Dr. Carlyle Corbin; and Louis Lafili, founding partner of Lafili, Van Crombrugghe and Partners in Belgium.
The keynote speaker of the Leaders Forum will be Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming of Anguilla. That forum will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3, in the Sports and Fitness Center. Chief Minister Fleming will speak on "Challenges Facing Small Country Global Leaders in Turbulent Times."
A discussion and question-and-answer period will follow each night's presentations. Both are free to the public.
The UVI institute aims to prepare university juniors, seniors and first-year graduates for global leadership roles. It features a series of workshops, field trips, round table discussions and forums.
