May 9-15 Is Women's Health Week in U.S. and the V.I.

May 12, 2004 – National Women's Health Week is being observed May 9-15, and in a Government House release issued on Tuesday, Gov. Charles W. Turnbull also proclaimed it Women's Health Week in the Virgin Islands.
"Keeping women healthy and safe and promoting awareness of women's health issues depends on partnerships with social, health and other services," the governor's proclamation stated. He said that women can promote health and prevent disease and illness by taking steps to improve their physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being.
"Women's health remains a priority for families, communities and government," he said, "and our commitment to keeping women healthy is stronger than ever."
The release said Turnbull urged the public and community organizations "to join him in this observance and to participate in the activities planned for this week."
No information about such activities was provided.
For more information about the observance nationwide, visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Women's Health Week Web site.
