May 6, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:

UVI Extends Deadline for Admissions Applications Until May 30
UVI has announced the extension of the deadline for the submission of applications for admissions through Sunday, May 30.
All interested persons are encouraged to apply. Individuals are asked to submit a completed admissions packet to the university's admissions office promptly. This packet should include the following:
1. a UVI admissions application;
2. an official high school and/or college transcript(s) or official GED verification;
3. an official GCE, CXC or CAPE results, if applicable;
4. an official SAT or ACT results, for undergraduate applicants, or GMAT results for potential MBA and MPA graduate applicants; and
5. a $25 (US) check or money order.

UVI Nursing Division to Host Presentation by Dr. Hermi Hewitt of UWI-Jamaica
Dr. Hermi Hewitt, head of the nursing program at the University of the West Indies – Jamaica Campus, will make a presentation at 6 p.m. Friday, May 7, at UVI. The presentation is titled "Contributions of Nursing Leaders in the Development of Nursing Education in the Region." Her book – "Trailblazers in Nursing Education: A Caribbean Perspective" – will form the basis of her presentation.
All Virgin Islands nurses and the general public are invited to attend. The presentation will originate in Evans Center room 713 on the St. Croix campus and be videoconferenced to Teacher Education room T-101 on the St. Thomas campus.
Dr. Hewitt holds a bachelor of science in nursing, a master's in public health and a doctorate in nursing administration from UWI, Tulane University and the University of Iowa, respectively. She has also pursued further study at Harvard School of Public Health and at the University of Miami School of Medicine.
Dr. Hewitt's presentation is sponsored by UVI's Division of Nursing in cooperation with the V.I. State Nurses Association, and VISNA District II. For more information contact Dr. Gloria Callwood at 693-1291.
Mathematics Skills Final Exams Set May 7 on St. Thomas
The final exam for students taking Mathematics Skills classes on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on May 7. The exam will be offered in the CA Building. For more information call 693-1253.
St. Thomas Class of 2004 Student Regalia Available at Bookstore
The UVI St. Thomas campus Bookstore has announced that regalia and Kente stoles for students of the graduating class of 2004 is now available. Students can pick up their regalia Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bookstore. Distribution will continue through Tuesday, May 11.
UVI to Administer ASE Exam on St. Thomas Campus – May 6 & 11
UVI will administer the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence exam on the St. Thomas campus on May 6 and 11. Exams will be conducted each day at 6:30 p.m. in the Freshman Center, Suite 118 of the Classroom Administration (CA) Building. For more information call 693-1152.
UVI Saturday Science Academies to Honor Participants May 8
Approximately 100 V.I. students will participate in closing ceremonies of the Saturday Science Awareness Academies conducted at UVI on Saturday, May 8.
Junior and senior academies were conducted one Saturday each month on UVI's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Junior academies included seventh and eighth grade students, while senior academies were designed for ninth through 12th graders.
Saturday's closing ceremonies will include panel discussions by physicians covering professional aspects of their careers, poster presentations by the students, and the presentation of certificates of participation. The closing on St. Thomas will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the campus Dining Pavilion. For more information call Catherine Schlingmann at 693-1383. The ceremonies on St. Croix are planned from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Cafetorium. For more information about the St. Croix program Jacqueline Kowalski at 692-4076.
UVI Spring Concert Set for May 8 at Charlotte Amalie High School
The UVI Music Area will present its annual Spring Concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, at the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium. The concert is titled "An Evening at the Opera and Broadway." It will feature familiar tunes like the "Habanera" and "Summertime." Well-known songs from Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera," "Cats," and "Pocahontas" will also be performed. The UVI Concert Choir, St. Thomas Community Voice Students and the UVI Concert Band will also be featured. Tickets — $10 for adults and $5 for students — are available at the UVI Bookstore and Humanities Division, Krystal and Gifts Galore in Tutu Park Mall and Dockside Bookshop at Havensight Mall.
UVI Spring 2004 Semester Classes to End Sunday, May 9
The last day of UVI classes for the Spring 2004 semester is Sunday, May 9. Final exams are scheduled for Monday, May 10, through Sunday, May 16.
English Skills Final Exam – ENG100/WAC011 – Set May 10 on St. Thomas
The final English Skills Exam for students enrolled in ENG100 and WAC011 on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. on Monday, May 10. It will be held in Room 222 of the Sports and Fitness Center.
UVI-CELL to Confer Certificates on 150 Trainees on St. Thomas and St. Croix
The UVI Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning Center will confer certificates of completion upon approximately 150 recent program participants during ceremonies scheduled on May 8 on St. Thomas and on May 14 on St. Croix.
Approximately 80 individuals will receive certificates on St. Thomas. The ceremony is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, in the UVI Sports & Fitness Center.
Approximately 70 individuals will be awarded certificates on St. Croix. The ceremony is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Cafetorium on UVI's St. Croix campus.
Recipients completed requirements in the following courses of study: International Computer's Driver's License (ICDL), Essentials to Business Writing, Sharpening Your Writing Edge, Legal Assistant's Certification Exam Review, Real Estate Salesperson's Course, Real Estate Appraisers and Brokers Course, AutoCAD 2002, Occupational Safety and Health Administration 511, Basic Computer Graphics, and the CPA Certified Public Accountant Review. The ceremonies are open to certificate recipients and their families. For more information call 693-1109.
