CFVI SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR ANNUAL AWARDS

May 1, 2004 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands is accepting nominations for its 3rd annual Silverbells and Cockleshells Awards, which recognize individuals, organizations and programs that are making a significant or lasting impact on the lives of children and families in the territory.
The idea is to recognize "creative, innovative and effective programs or projects," Dee Baecher-Brown, CFVI president, said in a release.
The selection committee will evaluate nominees' ability to have a positive impact on community needs as identified in the foundation's annual KidsCount statistical report. The final phase of evaluation may entail site visits or meetings with program representatives.
Criteria for judging will include how long the program has been in operation, its level of creativity and innovation, how it makes a positive contribution to the community, ways in which its success can be measured, and whether it is likely to be continued.
Individual and organizations may nominate themselves or propose others for consideration, she said, but each may make only one nomination. Nominations must be submitted on a one-page foundation form and must be received by May 28.
Copies of the form may be obtained by going to the foundation offices in Royal Dane Mall in Charlotte Amalie, or by calling the CFVI office at 774-6031.
Up to 10 winners will be announced at a recognition ceremony in the fall and will be highlighted in the Community Foundation's 2004 KidsCount data book that will be released toward the end of the year. Those selected also will receive monetary awards.
For further information about the Silverbells and Cockleshells Awards or the work of the foundation, visit the CFVI Web site or call 774-6031.
