April 15, 2004 – The Governor's Abandoned Vehicle and Beautification Task Force will be distributing more than 10,000 car mini-trash bags to St. Thomas motorists beginning on Friday, according to a Government House release issued on Thursday.
"The bags are plastic and reusable," James O'Bryan, St. Thomas-Water Island administrator and the governor's spokesman, said in the release, which characterized the distribution as "part of a plan to address the problem of accumulating roadside litter."
The release stated that "it is hoped that the motoring public will make good use" of the bags "as part of Gov. Charles Turnbull's cleanup initiative to improve the overall appearance of the Virgin Islands for residents and visitors alike."
There was no indication of how the bags will be distributed. Nor did the release specify whether they were purchased with public funds or acquired by donation.
