April 7, 2004 – The waiting room in the Roy L. Schneider Hospital surgical area now has a television set with a VCR, thanks to the generosity of three women who served together in the V.I. National Guard.
Beverlie Smith-Baron, Imugene Hodge-Ottley and police Officer Velma Williams, who call their organization The Three of Us, decided to make a donation to the hospital's surgical division. "It's our way of giving back to the community," Hodge-Ottley said.
The three made their presentation on Wednesday to Rodney E. Miller Sr., Schneider Hospital chief executive officer, and members of the operating room staff.
"This is a great Easter gift," Miller said.
Lynda Long, an operating room staff nurse, said: "We have a waiting room where patients sometimes have to wait several hours for a loved one to come out of surgery, and this will help make their stay a little more pleasurable."
The 19-inch Toshiba TV-VCR combo will be set up in the surgical waiting room over the Easter weekend, according to a hospital release.
