April 2, 2004 – The community meeting the Police Department had scheduled for Saturday evening in the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium on St. Thomas has been postponed to a date to be announced.
Police Commissioner Elton Lewis issued a statement on Friday stating that the meeting was postponed "due to unforeseen circumstances and scheduling conflicts with several of the invited guests."
St. Thomas Deputy Police Chief Elvin Fahie had announced the meeting initially and was to have conducted it. On Wednesday, he had described the gathering as "an effort to harness some expertise, ideas and community involvement as we strive to build an accountable, professional and respected police force." (See "Police to hold town meeting on Saturday evening".)
Lewis said in Friday's release that the meeting would be rescheduled "in the near future."
