March 21, 2004 – Join the St. John Community Foundation for its annual meeting on March 29 at the Fish Trap Restaurant.
Topics for discussion will include the upcoming purchase of the Cruz Bay Apartments. "We've been managing it since June," director Carole DeSenne said.
She said the price is still under negotiation, but the property, located behind the V.I. National Park Visitors Center, has a value of $4.5 million.
The agenda will also include discussion on the community center that the organization plans to build on 2.5 acres on Gifft Hill Road. DeSenne said Reliance Housing, the developer of the affordable housing community Bellevue Village, donated the land to the foundation for the community center.
The community center is still in the development stage. The organization has to raise money for its construction.
The members will also discuss the upcoming Children's Village at the July 4th Celebration. Although the foundation did not put on a Children's Village last year due to a lack of volunteers, DeSenne said that a sufficient number of volunteers have agreed to help this year.
The meeting will also include an update on the foundation's installation of a glass crusher and recycling center at the Westin Resort and Villas. The Westin recently received a Coastal Zone Management permit for the project.
Also at the March 29 meeting, members will elect the foundation's officers. The 2004-2005 slate includes Lonnie Willis as president, Martha Hills as vice-president, Kay Cooper as secretary, and Rob Crane as treasurer. Other board members include Harry Daniel, Alecia M. Wells, Craig Barshinger, Leslie A. Smith, and Mary Blazine.
The meeting, which includes refreshments, is open to the public.
