Charter Day Celebration Activities Continue
The focus of the UVI Charter Day celebration turned to the St. Croix campus Thursday with a lecture at noon by nurse Laura Moorhead White and a screening of the documentary, "Vieques an Island Forging Futures," by Johanna Bermudez Ruiz. St. Croix activities resume on Friday with the Queen Mary 5K Walk/Run – Help celebrate UVI Charter Day. Course starts at Kmart "West" and ends on St. Croix campus. For details call 692-4110.

2004 Isaac Dookhan Memorial Lectures Set March 18-19
Sir Roy Augier, Professor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, will be the guest lecturer at the 2004 Isaac Dookhan Memorial Lecture, hosted by the UVI social sciences division. Augier will present on the topic "Ever Closer Union: History & Politics of the Eastern Caribbean."
— St. Thomas Lecture: The St. Thomas campus lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, in room 303 of the Classroom Administration Building.
–St. Croix Lecture: The St. Croix lecture will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, in the Cafetorium of the Campus Center. For more information on the St. Croix presentation call 692-4117.
TV2 to Feature Jeffrey Osborne Interview on 'Hot Ticket'
The Innovative Cable TV2 entertainment program "Hot Ticket" will feature an interview with performer Jeffrey Osborne at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 19. The interview was done during Osborne's recent stay on St. Thomas where he opened the 25th anniversary season of UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts. The program will be aired again at 3:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, and again at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23.
National Parks Scholarships, Summer Jobs Available to Students
The Friends of V.I. National Park have announced information on the group's annual scholarship and summer internship programs that are available to V.I. college students. Two scholarships are available to Virgin Islanders entering either their junior or senior year at accredited universities with a major in a field related to natural resource management. This year's summer internship program will provide paid positions on a 10-person crew including eight high school graduates/college students (all residents of the U.S.V.I.) and two leaders to repair hiking trails and restore wildlife habitat at the V.I. UVI Plans 'Day at Tutu Park Mall' for March 20
UVI will conduct an informational "Day At Tutu Park Mall" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. University administrators, faculty members and students will be on hand to share a personal snapshot of UVI's numerous academic and special program offerings. Information regarding admissions procedures, financial aid and housing options will also be available. Admissions applications will also be accepted during the day. The deadline for applications for the fall semester is April 30. For more information call 693-1160.
UVI Men's Volleyball to Host Squad from the University of Maryland
The UVI men's volleyball team will play three matches against the visiting University of Maryland's club team beginning March 20. Matches on Saturday, March 20 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 21, at 6:30 will be played at Charlotte Amalie High School. The Tuesday, March 23, match will take place at 8:30 p.m. at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. Admission to all games is free.
Second Spring Research Symposium Set March 20 on St. Croix
UVI's second annual Spring Research Symposium is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, at the Student Center on the St. Croix campus. The works of approximately 20 participants in UVI's Emerging Caribbean Scientist Scholars Program will be on display. The scholars are UVI students from the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses who work directly with faculty members on various research projects. UVI's division of science and mathematics is asking V.I. high school teachers to encourage their students to attend the symposium. For more information call 692-4150.
Senior Recital for E. James Belle Set for March 21 on St. Thomas
Saxophonist E. James Belle will present his senior recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at the Nisky Moravian Church. The performance is sponsored by the Music Area of the Humanities Division of the University of the Virgin Islands. Belle will be accompanied by Monet Davis. Admission is free. Intramural Basketball Season Continues; Playoffs Scheduled
UVI Intramural basketball play continues on both campuses.
On St. Thomas, the regular season will conclude with games at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 21. A single-elimination tournament follows with games on March 22 and 24. Tournament games begin at 7:30 p.m. Semifinal games are set for Sunday, March 28, at 5 and 6:30 p.m., with a championship game set at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31. All games are played in the Sports and Fitness Center. Admission is free. For details contact Erik Heikkila at 693-1213.
On St. Croix, games are played on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. and on Fridays beginning at 7 p.m. Rain delays have extended the regular season on St. Croix. Playoffs are now set to be held on March 22 through 26, with a championship planned for April 2. For details contact Bruce Wray at 692-4139.
UVI Jazz Ensemble Spring Concert to Feature Larry Ridley on March 27
The UVI Jazz Ensemble featuring bassist extraordinaire Larry Ridley will present a spring concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the New Dining Pavilion on the St. Thomas campus. The concert is under the auspices of UVI's Humanities Division Music Department. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available from the UVI humanities division, the Music Area, UVI Bookstore and Ensemble Members. For further information contact Martin Lamkin at 693-1194.
UVI Seminar on April 4 Will Highlight Recent Changes in CPA Exam
A seminar designed to highlight changes in the recently updated CPA exam will be offered by the UVI business division at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, at Chase Auditorium on the St. Thomas campus. Roy D. Jackson, CPA, will be the featured speaker. The seminar is open to current UVI students as well as the general public. Participants Sought for UVI's 2004 Carnival Floupe
Participants are being sought for UVI's 2004 Carnival floupe. UVI's community engagement committee, which organizes the parade entry, has chosen the theme: "Knowledge, Culture and More for Carnival 2004." Philadanco Next Show in Reichhold Center's 25th Season
Reichhold Center for the Arts 25th Anniversary season tickets are available at the Reichhold Center box office at 693-1559. The center's next performance will be by the renowned modern dance company Philadanco at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.
'A Masquerade Fantasy' is Theme of Spring Banquet and Ball
The social and cultural committee of the Student Government Association on UVI's St. Croix campus has announced that the theme of the 13th annual UVI Spring Banquet and Ball is "A Masquerade Fantasy." The Spring Ball is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 27
, at the Great House on the St. Croix campus. Tickets are $25 per person and $30 per couple. Attire is formal. A Spring Ball "after party" is planned at the Student Center with music by Xtaushun Band. Admission is $10.
UVI Scholarship Application Deadline is April 2
UVI scholarships applications for the 2004-05 school year are now available for high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Applications can be obtained at the Financial Aid Offices on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Applications and the required letter of recommendation are to be returned to the UVI financial aid office no later than the scholarship deadline, which is 4 p.m. on Friday, April 2.
