NURSING WEEK MARKED BY REGIONAL CONFERENCE

March 15, 2004 – Gov. Charles W. Turnbull has proclaimed the week of March 15-21 as Nursing Week in the Virgin Islands.
Acting on a resolution sent by the Senate last week, Turnbull signed into law a bill recognizing the territory's Mu Eta chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. on the hosting of the group's 2004 Southeast Region conference. More than 300 nurses are expected to attend the conference starting Friday at Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort.
The sorority is a professional association for registered, professional and student nurses, with more than 8,000 members.
"It is important that we highlight the essential role and invaluable contributions of nurses to the health-care industry," Turnbull said in his proclamation. "Professional nursing has been demonstrated to be a key component in the quality of care of hospitalized patients. The cost-effective, quality health-care services provided by nurses will be an ever more important component of the health-care delivery system in the future."
