EDUCATION SEEKS GED NOMINEES FOR AWARD

March 5, 2004 – The V.I. Education Department is seeking nominations for the 2004 Cornelius P. Turner Award.
Nominees must have earned a GED diploma eight or more years ago and must have made a significant contribution to society or a noteworthy accomplishment in one of these areas: education, justice, health or medicine, public service or social welfare, according to a release.
Additionally, nominees' contribution must relate to the GED testing program in some way, or, alternatively, the nominee could not have made the accomplishment without a GED diploma.
Nominations are accepted only from GED administrators, chief examiners, examiners, GED and ABE teachers and program staff, adult education director, and Education Department staff. Forms have been circulated to Education personnel, and the original and seven copies must be submitted to the State Office of Adult Vocational Technical Program, Department of Education, 44-46 Kongens Gade, St. Thomas, VI 00802; or 2132 Hospital Street, Christiansted, St. Croix, V.I. 00822.
Nominations must be postmarked by March 26, 2004.
Winners will be expected to attend and make a brief presentation at the 2004 GED Administrators' Conference in Park City, Utah, in July. Travel expenses will be covered by the program.
The Turner award was established in 1992 and is named for the founder of the GED testing program. For additional information call 776-3484 for St. Thomas-St. John or 772-3155 for St. Croix.
