Friday, Feb. 27. Jazz @ Coral World, 7 p.m. The Jazz @ Coral World series continues with "The Trumpet Summit," showcasing the talents of St. Croix trumpeters Eddie Russell and Marcus Rabb. Admission is $15 for general public and $5 for students, with no advance ticket sales. The series will benefit a scholarship for V.I. graduates pursuing jazz studies in college. Read The Whole Story.
Saturday, Feb. 28. Jeffrey Osborne @ Reichhold, 8 p.m. Smooth balladeer, Jeffrey Osborne, famous for his hits "On the Wings of Love," and "Stay with Me Tonight," among others, will open the Reichhold Center for the Arts' 25th season on St. Thomas. $65, $45, and $30. Read The Whole Story.
Wednesday, March 3 through Sunday, March 7. 2nd Annual St. John Blues Festival, a variety of times. St. John's musical guru, Steve Simon, has teamed up with Coors Light to present the 2nd Annual St. John Blues Festival. Dr. John, Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, Richard "Sweet" Waters and the Blues Boyz, SVR recording artist Tim Gonzalez, the David James Band, and the David Hannon Band are all in the lineup for this five-day, multiple venue event. Saturday, Feb. 21 through March 13. "The Nerd" @ Pistarckle Theater, 6:30 p.m. The Pistarckle Theater Company will be holding their annual fund-raising event dinner-theater style with a performance of the Larry Shue play, "The Nerd". Theater patrons attending the fund-raiser will be treated to a pre-show champagne toast, dinner, a silent auction and a chance to meet the cast and director after the show – which will be performed a la dinner-theater at Pistarckle's Tillett Gardens location. All profits will go to support the not-for-profit company's 2004 Children's Summer Camp. $100. After Saturday night's event, there will be regular theater performances of "The Nerd" on Feb. 27-28, March 4-6 and March 11-13. Call the theater for show times and prices, 775-7877. Readings Series @ Pistarckle, 8 p.m. As part of its fund raising efforts for a summer Theater Camp, Pistarckle Theater is hosting a series of staged readings of dramatic works at its Tillett Gardens location on St. Thomas. Readings Series @ Pistarckle, 8 p.m. As part of its fund raising efforts for a summer Theater Camp, Pistarckle Theater is hosting a series of staged readings of dramatic works at its Tillett Gardens location on St. Thomas. Now Through March 13.Sacha Tebó @ Sólo Arte Gallery, Cruz Bay. An exhibition of work by the internationally acclaimed Haitian-born artist Sacha Tebó, whose work has been exhibited on St. Thomas and St Croix in recent years. Tebó works in encaustic — a medium in use for two millennia that is a mixture of beeswax, turpentine and pigment and is applied using a knife. Read The Whole Story.
Winter-Spring. Children's and Adults' Workshops @ Maho. This month marks the beginning of child and adult art classes at Maho Bay Camps. Saturday, Feb. 28 through March 14. Whale Watch With E.A.S.T., 9 a.m. The Environmental Association of St. Thomas-St. John will be out searching for whales on Feb. 28 and 29, and then again March 13 and 14 aboard the catamaran, Allura. Wednesday, March 3. Architectural Tour with V.I. Park Friends, 9 a.m. Architect Glen Speer and the Friends of the V.I. National Park will team up to tour St. John's "architecturally interesting sites." Participants will meet at the Sun Dog Café and go on tour from there. $20 for memeber; $25 for non-members.
Saturday, March 6. Coastal Ecology Tour with V.I. Park Friends, 9:30 a.m. V.I. National Park Chief of Resource Management, Rafe Boulon, and the Friends of the V.I. National Park will be snorkeling, wading, floating and, of course, motoring around St. John on the Sadie Sea to get a closer look at the island's marine habitats. Bring lunch, water, wading shoes and snorkeling gear. $60 for members; $70 for non-members.
