Senator Celestino A. White, Sr. wishes to advise St. Johnians that the construction of Bellevue Village Apartments, just south of Pine Peace
School, has begun and is well on its way to development.
Senator White recently met with the developer, Robert Jackson, President of
Reliance Housing Foundation, and the building contractor, James Benton, President of Benton Construction, and was assured that the development is on schedule. "Mobilization has taken place and the land at Bellevue Village has been cleared with construction to begin by mid-March of this year," stated Senator White. Reliance Housing Foundation is the same developer who is in the final stage of constructing the 99 unit Lovenlund Apartments high on the hills at Magens Bay.
Additionally, Senator White wanted assurances from both the developer and the contractor that the homes would be constructed of the finest quality material, and St. Johnians would be given first preference for employment.
"The 72 unit complex is schedule to be completed by June of 2005, and will be rented to income qualified residents whose household does not exceed 60% of the Area Median Income. At the end of the 15 year Low Income Housing Tax Credit Compliance Period, each duplex building will be offered for sale to the qualified low income family who resides in the upper unit of the building," according to Senator White.
"Finally, I have informed the developer and contractor that my office stands ready to assist in resolving any issue that would tend to delay this project," concluded Senator White.
