Feb. 11, 2004 Celebrate Mardi Gras at the Krewe de Croix's annual ball this Saturday at the Divi Carina Bay Casino. Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. with music by Dave Gerard's Groove Thang.
Dress is island formal. Masks will be for sale with prices ranging from $5 to $10. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers.
Other events include the Krewe de Croix Fashion Show on Sunday at Hibiscus Beach Resort. The show, which begins at 4:30 p.m., features beachwear by Millie. Admission is free.
On Wednesday, join Krewe de Croix at 7:30 p.m. for the Queen's Supper at Carambola Beach Resort. Music will be provided by the Castaways. The menu includes Cajun seafood and other New Orleans-influenced dishes. The dinner runs $22.95 for members and $29.95 for nonmembers.
The events wrap up with a parade on Feb. 21, beginning at noon. The parade runs from The Corner Store in LaVallee west to Cane Bay.
"The theme of the parade is 'Culture of the Caribbean,'" said Dory Tiblier, one of the event's organizers. She said the parade will have about 25 to 30 entries, including floats, horses and motorcycles.
Krewe de Croix formed in 2003 in an effort to help St. Croix's flagging economy. Tiblier, who hails from New Orleans, said the organization publicizes its events on the mainland in an effort to lure visitors to St. Croix.
Tiblier said its events will always run the week before the traditional Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
