Feb. 10, 2004 Epiphany Theater Company's upcoming performance, "Knock 'Em Dead," is a whodunit that lets the audience decide who the murderer will be.
Since Epiphany Theater doesn't have a permanent home at the moment, the company will hold performances at various restaurants around St. John throughout March — at the Fish Trap, Paradiso, Sputnik 2 and the Inn at Tamarind Court. (Specific dates are listed below.)
All performances start at 8 p.m., but playgoers are invited to arrive as early as 6:30 to enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drinks from a cash bar.
Tickets are $25. They're available at Connections in Cruz Bay and in Coral Bay.
The play takes place in a seedy nightclub. The characters are people who are trying out for a talent show where the prize is $1,000.
In an unusual twist, the audience gets to vote on who the villain will be at the show's end.
"That person gets up and talks about why he did it," said Carole DeSenne, who plays a foul-mouthed standup comedian.
Other cast members include Michael Beason as a ventriloquist with moving lips, Jeannine Dirigo as a baton-twirling bimbo, Paul E. Devine as the owner of a lip-syncing dog, Jessie A. Cawley as a German singer with a questionable accent, James Julien as a hypnotist with a questionable past, and Tim Jackson as the nightclub master of ceremonies.
Lisa Duncan is the play's director.
A different person plays the victim each night. DeSenne said that person will be someone the community wouldn't mind discovering with a knife in his back.
The victim, whose character is Vinnie the nightclub owner, may also be affiliated with the restaurant where the performance is held.
Performance dates are:
March 8 and 15 – Fish Trap
March 10 and 17 – Paradiso
March 18 – Sputnik 2
March 13 and 20 — Inn at Tamarind Court.
