CRUCIAN WADSWORTH DICKENSEN DIES IN MIAMI

Feb. 5, 2004 – Longtime V.I. Democratic Party loyalist Wadsworth "Lally" Dickensen, a native of St. Croix, died in Miami this week following a long illness, Government House announced on Thursday.
Gov. Charles W. Turnbull in extending condolences to Dickensen's family and loved ones, described him as "a staunch supporter whose loyalty and commitment to the Democratic Party and its ideals are unsurpassed and will be difficult to emulate."
Delegate Donna M. Christensen said in a release from her Washington office that "we are all going to miss Lally."
Dickensen founded several Democratic Party-based organizations on St. Croix and was a longtime member of the party's territorial committee.
As president of the People's Democratic Club, Christensen said, he was "the conscience of the party. He could always be counted on to be at the center of every Democratic Party campaign, proudly waving the party banner, in good times and bad, and making sure that the leadership did not get out of touch of the man on the street."
The governor said Dickensen and his family recognized that political involvement is the bedrock of democracy and so became active participants in the territory's political process.
Dickensen is survived by his wife, Cavelle, and children, grandchildren and an extended circle of family and friends.
