BOOK DOCUMENTS HOLY CROSS WINDOWS, HISTORY

Feb. 4, 2003 – A new hard-cover book published on St. Croix chronicles the history of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Christiansted and provides information about the 28 memorial stained-glass windows in its sanctuary.
The work includes individual color photographs of the windows and brief histories of the saints represented, as well as other color plates. There is a list of clergy who have served the church and a bibliography of sources drawn upon for information relating to religion in the Virgin Islands.
Titled simply "Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church," the book was researched, edited and published by Robert V. Vaughn, a Holy Cross parishioner and retired St. Croix librarian. He also took all of the photographs and served as graphic designer for the project.
The concept for the publication originated under the Rev. Albert Bradley, pastor emeritus, and reached completion under the guidance and direction of the Rev. Patrick Lynch, current pastor of the parish, Vaughn said in a release.
"This volume should become a reference work for parishioners, school children and visitors, as well as historians," Vaughn said.
A limited number of copies of the book have been printed. They are priced at $20 and may be purchased or reserved at the Holy Cross rectory at 45A Queen Street in Christiansted, or by calling 773-7564. The rectory office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
