CHALLENGE TO SCHOOLS: 'GIVE US YOUR ROYALTY'

Jan. 22, 2004 – There's still a chance for youngsters between 6 and 12 years of age to be a prince or princess: the V.I. Carnival Committee is seeking more couples for the pageant, and has extended the deadline to Jan. 31.
Francisque Roberts, chair of the subcommittee, is putting out a challenge to all St. Thomas elementary schools, a release said. "School spirit plays a major role in motivating the children in every aspect of their involvement with the show," Roberts said.
The 2003 V.I. Carnival Princess, LaQuanda Fredericks, attends Joseph Sibilly elementary School, while her partner and 2003 Prince, K'Mani Dowe, attends the Michael J. Kirwan Elementary School.
Interested children need to maintain at least a letter grade average of "C." For more information call Roberts at 774-1343 or the VICC office at 776-3112.
