Jan. 8, 2004 – Join the Artists Association of St. John for the grand opening of its Third Annual Art Show on Jan. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will take place in the upstairs reception room at the Battery in Cruz Bay.
"It's one of the premier art shows in the Caribbean," said Lisa Crumrine, one of the association members helping to organize the show.
Works by more than 40 artists from St. John and St. Thomas will be displayed through Jan. 19. Hours are from noon to 6 p.m. on Jan. 17, 18 and 19.
Crumrine said works include painting, sculpture, photography, wood turning, glass, and metal working. All works are for sale.
Forty percent of the proceeds will go to fund the association's youth fund.
Member Mandy Thody said that the money raised through this event will help fund programs that assist young artists with things like supplies and framing, as well as funding instructors at the organization's other ongoing programs. The group also plans to fund an art school scholarship.
Wine, juice and cheese and crackers will be served. Admission is free.
Sponsors are welcome to preview the art from 4 to 5 p.m.
The AASJ formed three years ago to promote the interests of St. John artists. Its Web site lists 46 resident artist members and 33 associate members.
