This horrific story of extreme animal cruelty would rock the sensibilities of any civilized human Being, animal lover or not! And, the fact that there is not a felony law against this sort of behavior, perpetuates the sort of lawlessness that permeates island lifestyle. The fact that these types of individuals are allowed to roam freely amongst us endangers us all….animals and humans!
We civilized people are sick over this news story!
Mr Charkoff is right about "our ability to attract tourists". I have been visiting St Croix for 20 years, and own a home in Christiansted now. Last November while driving in Whim to visit friends I passed a little blond dog sitting in the middle of the road and had to drive around him. Two hours later on returning, I passed the same little dog, in the same spot. It had been run over; killed by someone who couldn't even make the effort to go around the dog. The ways some islanders treat animals, and don't care for them is obvious and turns off visitors. Pass the "animal cruelty" law.
I look at my two "island dogs" and say "thank God they're here". These blatant shows of complete lack of respect for life, and god's little creatures so obvious to any visitor, is just another in a long string of "turnoffs". They might ask what I did that day, and again today…"what the hell am I doing in a place like this?" They won't come back! The animals wouldn't, if they could leave!
