MAN ARRESTED AFTER SWALLOWING DIAMOND

Dec. 27, 2003 – A Boston, Mass., teacher has been charged in the Virgin Islands with stealing a diamond from a Main Street store. Police arrested Terry Bryan, 59, a few hours after the store's video surveillance system showed him swallowing a diamond after asking a store clerk to let him take a closer look at the precious gem.
Police officials said Friday Bryan was in Diamond's International around 12:30 p.m. Christmas Day looking at some diamonds when he popped one jewel in his mouth, swallowed it and walked out of the store. He was placed on $150,000 bail.
Neither police nor store officials could say whether the swallowed diamond has been recovered.
