NEWLY CROWNED MISS ST. CROIX OFFERED LEGISLATURE INTERNSHIP
Senator Ronald E. Russell, chairman of the Committee of Education and Youth, offered the winner of the Miss St. Croix pageant, a one-year internship with the Committee on Education and Youth to the winner of the Miss St. Croix contest. In a letter to the Miss St. Croix Pageant Coordinator, Claire Roker, Senator Russell explained that the internship would provide the current winner, Ms. Rennisha Wickham, an opportunity to experience "many facets of government, including legislation, public relations, research, writing and community involvement".
Senator Russell recognizes that the Miss St. Croix pageant attracts some of the best and brightest young minds of the territory. He believes that this internship is a way for young aspiring Virgin Islanders to get "hands on" work experience in the field of government. In the event that Miss Wickham is unable to accept this internship, Senator Russell extends this offer to Halima Roebuck, the 1st runner up.
Senator Russell urges the entire community, government and private businesses alike to creatively explore and put into effect career and
internship opportunities that will be appealing to the young people of the territory. Through the collective efforts of the community we can begin to give hope to our youth – that there is a place for them in the future of the Virgin Islands.
Senator Russell congratulates Miss St. Croix, Rennisha Wickham for her outstanding performance and applauds the Cruzan Christmas Festival Pageant Committee for a job well done.
