Dec. 23, 2003 Make music on Wednesday, this Christmas Eve, with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship's Community Christmas Carol Sing. The group is inviting the public to join them in singing Christmas songs old and new at Mongoose Junction Shopping Center.
Singers are to gather near the front of the complex at 5:30 p.m. The festivities will last until 7 p.m.
Craig Barshinger, a Unitarian who helped organize the event, said the music resonates off the shopping center's stone walls. "It makes the sound really nice," he said.
The group will provide song sheets, and amateur musicians are welcome to bring their instruments.
Barshinger said the songs will include old-time favorite carols, contemporary pop tunes such as "Jingle Bell Rock" and the traditional West Indian Christmas songs — "Mama Bake the Johnny Cake" and "The Guavaberry Song."
People who are intimidated because they can't carry a tune should participate anyway, Barshinger said. "Come along and smile," he said.
