Dec. 8, 2003 — The public is being advised to avoid areas of continued spillage of raw sewage in both Christiansted and Frederiksted.
The Department of Planning and Natural Resources sent out notices late Monday afternoon saying it is "looking into reports" of sewage flowing out of manholes at the intersection of King Cross Street and King Street and the intersection of King Cross and Watergut Streets.
Officials said that a shutdown of the LBJ Pump Station is the probable culprit. The station has had a long history of failures.
In Frederiksted, DPNR said, the Lagoon Street Pump Station has also gone off-line. The public is advised to avoid Lagoon Street Gut, Frederiksted Public Beach and the Anne Abramson Pier.
