Navy Officer Richardson Lewis / St. Thomas
Nov. 25, 2003 (Fleet News) – Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Richardson Lewis, son of Edith and Gilbert A. Lewis of St. Thomas, recently reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District Miami, Fla.
Lewis is a 1989 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School. He joined the Navy in September 1989.
Navy Hospitalman Recruit Cassilda R. Connor / St. Thomas
Navy Hospitalman Recruit Cassilda R. Connor, a 2000 Graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, recently graduated from the Basic hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Illinois.
During this 14-week training course, Connor learned a wide range of medical procedures used to assist Navy doctors and nurses. Connor was also instructed in how to perform in a variety of medical environments ranging from fleet hospitals to administration offices.
Connor's first assignment after school will involve direct patient care, but with her training Connor is able to work in several different areas, including: first aid, minor surgical assistance, pharmacy and laboratory analysis, patient transportation and food service inspections.
Connor is the daughter of Muriel V. Joseph and Harvey A. Connor of St. Thomas.
Marine Corps Pvt. Karl Brodie / St. Thomas
Nov. 5, 2003(Fleet News) – Marine Corps Pvt. Karl C. A. Brodie, a 2001 graduate of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, recently returned from an eight-month deployment embarked onboard the USS Iwo Jima, while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Brodie was one of more than 4,000 Atlantic Fleet Sailors and Marines who were deployed aboard the ships of the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group.
The deployment included training and real-world operations in Iraq and Liberia.
Brodie's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment. MEUs are composed of more than 2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, aircraft squadron, support group and command element. With this combination, Brodie's unit supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-on forces.
Army ROTC graduate Wayne S. Lett / St. Croix
Nov. 4, 2003 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) — Wayne S. Lett has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.
Lett is the son of Burrnett Matoo and the grandson of Miriam Richards of St. Croix.
The camp provides the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of camp life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus at camp is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential. The cadet command assesses each cadet's performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while at camp.
