'PARTY WITH A PURPOSE' SET FOR NOV. 28

Nov. 21, 2003 – This year, the annual Mongoose Junction shopping center Evening in the Courtyard is billed as a "Party with a Purpose," because money raised through art sales will benefit the Friends of the V.I. National Park.
The event will run from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28.
In addition to the usual festivities, art from local and other artists will be on display at many stores throughout the shopping area. At least 50 percent of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to the Friends of the Park.
"We are great friends of the park and we greatly appreciate what the national park does for St. John," said Radha Speer, who owns Caravan Gallery at the shopping center.
She reminded purchasers that the money paid for the artwork is tax-deductible.
Pieces include paintings, ceramics, sculpture, glass and jewelry. The theme for all is "St. John's physical beauty." Artists will be on hand to meet guests and answer questions.
The evening also includes a fashion show by Bamboula. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the courtyard between Bamboula and Big Planet.
Other stores will have activities, including a wine-and-cheese reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bajo el Sol Gallery.
Music will be by Pan and Keys.
While the Party with a Purpose provides an opportunity for holiday shopping, Speer said it was also a chance for residents to meet their friends.
"And it's a really cool event," said Karen Brady, development director at the Friends of the Park.
The artists include Kimberly Boulon, Deborah St. Clair, Amy Trayser, Pat Whitehead, Lucinda Schutt, Ray Imhoff, Kat Sowa, Gail Van de Bogurt, Elaine Estern, Patty Tarcquard, Larry Lipski, Viki Brown, Irene Patton, Mary Thomas, Ron Keele, Claire Wilkenson, Pam King, Mandy Thody and Traci Kegerreis.
