Paradise Jam Opens Friday
Paradise Jam 2003 opens Friday, at the University of the Virgin Island's Sports and Fitness Center with the first of two games beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the men's division. Six Division I men's squads – Appalachian State, Hampton, Monmouth, Boston College, La Salle and Wichita State – will play on Nov. 21, 22, 23, and 24. Eight Division I women's squads – Indiana, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, James Madison, Southwest Missouri State and West Virginia – take the court on Nov. 27 through 29. General admission tickets for Virgin Islands residents are $10 per night. UVI student tickets cost $5 per night.
UVI Little Theatre Reschedules 'Man Better Man'
UVI will turn its Little Theatre on the St. Thomas campus into a small, Trinidadian country village set in the late 1960s for the backdrop for its production of the Caribbean musical "Man Better Man." The play, written by Errol Hill, will now be staged Nov. 28 through Dec. 1. (The originally scheduled dates were for November 21-24.)
Tickets previously purchased will be honored on the corresponding weekday. Since the postponement has moved the play to Thanksgiving weekend, individuals who wish to return tickets or change days should return to the ticket outlet where purchased.
Showtime is 8 p.m. each day. Tickets are $6 for students and $12 for general admission. Outlets for tickets are the UVI Humanities Division, the UVI Bookstore, Dockside Bookstore and Nisky Pharmacy. For more information call 693-1354.
St. Croix Screenings Set for 'Me & Mrs. Jones'
"Me & Mrs. Jones," the romantic comedy that was written, produced and directed by Virgin Islander Edward LaBorde Jr., will be screened at 7:30 p.m. at the Island Center on St. Croix on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23. The feature-length film, which stars Kim Fields and Brian White, recently enjoyed a sold-out Caribbean premiere on St. Thomas at the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
Tickets for "Me & Mrs. Jones" are $8 and are available at the UVI Bookstore, Essentric Shoe Boutique, People's Drug Store and Parrot Fish in Christiansted. Student tickets, at $5 each, are available only at the UVI Bookstore. For details, contact the Reichhold Center for the Arts at 693-1559.
On-line Registration for Spring Semester Continues
The UVI Registrar's Office has announced that on-line registration for continuing students enrolling in Spring Semester 2004 classes will be available until further notice. More information and links to on-line registration are available on the UVI home page: www.uvi.edu
Virgin Gorda Get-A-Way Cancelled *
The UVI trip to Virgin Gorda, which had been postponed once, has been cancelled. All those who had prepaid for the trip may contact Junie Violenes, the UVI Student Affairs Supervisor, at 693-1111 to obtain a refund.
Opening Ceremony for Model Farm Project Rescheduled *
A public opening ceremony for the UVI Integrated Model Farm Project, originally scheduled for Nov. 16, has been postponed due to muddy conditions at the farm. The farm, situated on land adjacent to the St. Croix campus, was developed by UVI's Agricultural Experiment Station. A new date for the event will be announced when available. SBDC to Offer Stress Management Workshop
UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be conducting a Stress Management Workshop: How to Cope with the Pressures of Everyday Living from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the UVI-SBDC Training Center located in the Sunshine Mall lower level, on St. Croix. Admission is $20. There is free admission to UVI employees and students, and veterans of the U.S. military with valid identification. Refreshments will be served. ASE Technician Test Scheduled
ASE Technician Tests continue as scheduled for Nov. 18 and 20 at the UVI Freshman Center in the Classroom Administration Building on the St. Thomas Campus. Candidates will check in at 6:30 p.m. Tests begin at 7 p.m. No walk-ins will be accepted.
VIMAS/St. Croix to Sponsor Diving Slide Show
VIMAS/St. Croix will sponsor a slide presentation entitled "Diving Around the World: Some of the World's Best Diving." The presentation will be made by underwater photographer Hank Tonnemacher and will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Theater in the Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus. MBA Comprehensive Exam Scheduled
Applicants for the Masters of Business Administration Comprehensive Exam are reminded that the tests will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 21 in Room 116 of the Teacher Education building (note location change) on the St. Thomas campus and in the Research and Extension Center room 139 on the St. Croix campus.

Lecture on History of St. Croix Furniture Set
A lecture titled: "St. Croix: A Brief History of Its Furniture and Furniture-Makers" will be presented by Carmella Richards from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23 at the Cafetorium on UVI's St. Croix campus. Richards is a Crucian who is now works at the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The lecture is sponsored by the UVI Social Sciences Division and the St. Croix Landmarks Society. For more information contact Dr. Aletha Baumann at 692-4117.
UVI Postpones Saturday Academies
UVI's Science and Mathematics Department has announced that the Junior Science Saturday Academy and the Senior Science Saturday Academy, both of which were scheduled to meet on Saturday, Nov. 15, on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands, have been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22. PRAXIS Examination Re-Scheduled
The PRAXIS (teacher certification) Examination on St. Thomas was postponed due to the curfew imposed last Friday evening and Saturday morning on St. Thomas. The rescheduled exam will now be held on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Teacher Education Building, Room 211 on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Candidate check-in time begins at 7:30 a.m. The examination begins at 8 a.m. For more information call 693-1152. The PRAXIS Exam on St. Croix was held as originally scheduled on Nov. 15.
UVI Jazz Ensemble Concert Rescheduled
The public is invited to a concert by the UVI Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at UVI's new Dining Pavillion on the St. Thomas campus. (Note: This concert was originally scheduled for Nov. 15.)
The ensemble, conducted by Martin J. Lamkin, will feature several local artists, including pianist Louis Taylor, UVI vocalist Danielle Greenaway, Melita Etiene, and pianist and vocalist Detra Davis. Classic jazz tunes such as A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square, The Girl from Ipanema, The Way You Look Tonight and Dat Dere will be featured.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the UVI Humanities Division, the Music Department and UVI Bookstore as well as from ensemble members. For details contact Martin Lamkin at 693-1194.
Agriculture and Food Fair Cancelled
The 22nd annual St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair has been cancelled due to conditions caused by recent inclement weather. Efforts by the fair committee to postpone the fair were complicated by upcoming holidays (Thanksgiving) and conflicts with other previously scheduled events and activities. Vendor refunds will be available from Monday, Nov. 24 through Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the UVI Extension Service office on St. Thoma
s. St. Croix vendors can collect refunds at the Department of Agriculture office at Lower Love.
