Nov. 15, 2003 Folk guitarist Tom Rush, who happened to be vacationing on St. John when Brian Hollenbaugh and Henry Karlin caught up with him, has agreed to perform an impromptu concert Sunday night at Hollenbaugh's new restaurant, Jack's at Tillett Gardens.
The last-minute concert will mark the second time the singer-songwriter has performed in the garden. In January 2002 Rush performed before a sell-out crowd of mostly 40-to 60- something islanders, who packed the place to hear the legendary singer perform his old favorites and many of his newly composed numbers.
Rolling Stone magazine once credited Rush with "ushering in the singer/songwriter era" with his 1965 album "The Circle Game," named after its now-well-known title track.
Rush is also noted for his covers of songs by music icons Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Jackson Browne.
One would expect Sunday night's concert to include some of those and who knows what else since it is entirely impromptu.
It will also benefit the Rotary Club of St. Thomas. Tickets are $20 with $5 of each ticket going to the club. The concert will start at 7 p.m.
