DEADLINE ON RECALL PETITION COMES AND GOES

Nov. 15, 2003 – Saturday was the deadline for petitions calling for the recall of Gov. Charles W. Turnbull to be submitted to the Board of Elections. But no information on the recall drive was available Saturday morning.
Tyrone Molyneaux, president of the St. Croix Federation of Teachers, started the recall campaign Sept. 30. He sent out around 1,000 copies of the recall petition, hoping to garner 20 signatures apiece. The union represents roughly 2,400 people territorywide.
Molyneaux remained hopeful earlier in the week of obtaining the necessary 17,518 signatures by Saturday, although he said he didn't know how many had been collected so far.

Calls to the elections office and Molyneaux's office and home went unanswered Saturday.
