ANTILLES HOSTING 3-DAY GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY

Oct. 22, 2003 – Antilles School will host the 12th annual Ocean Spray Volleyball Classic tournament Friday through Sunday at the Mark C. Marin Center on St. Thomas. This year's event is for varsity and junior varsity girls' teams from St. Thomas, St. Croix and Puerto Rico.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 14 teams were confirmed to take part, tournament director Bob Cook said. They are:
Junior varsity — All Saints Cathedral School, Antilles School (two teams), Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, Central High School, Charlotte Amalie High School, and Manor School.
Varsity — All Saints, Antilles, Central, Charlotte Amalie, Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Education Complex and Sts. Peter and Paul.
Cook, who is the Antilles high school assistant athletic director, said he expects to hear from a few more school by Friday.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday, with the first games to begin about 4 p.m., Cook said. "The finals will be Sunday afternoon, around noon or 1 p.m.," he said.
The Marin Center has two athletic courts, "and we will have both going at the same time," he said. Play is expected to continue until about 10 p.m. Friday, then resume Saturday at 9 a.m. and again continue until about 10 p.m.
Antilles is the defending champion of both the varsity and junior varsity trophies. The traditional rivalry has been between Antilles and CAHS, and that's expected to be the case again this year, Cook said.
The public is invited to watch the games all three days. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students with I.D. each day. The food and drink concession will be open.
