Oct. 19, 2003 — The V.I. Labor Department invites all V.I. employers, employees, legislators, government agencies and community organizations to attend Informational Seminars this week in both districts.
— Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on St. Thomas at Palms Court Harborview Hotel
— Friday, Oct. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on St. Croix at the Carambola Beach Resort.
There is no registration fee. A continental breakfast and morning and afternoon snacks will be provided.
The department's Labor Statistics Bureau is sponsoring the seminars to meet the mandates of its federally funded One Stop Labor Market Information grant.
Vital information on local and federal laws and other Labor Department requirements will be provided, including:
— How the Unemployment Insurance system works, for both employers and employees
— The role of Workers' Compensation in the Virgin Islands
— How the Labor Relations Division protects both employers and employees
— The free consultation and training services of OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
— What happens during an appeal process
— The current state of the V.I. economy
