Sports and Fitness Center to Suspend Arena Activities to Allow Floor Repairs
The UVI Athletics Department has announced that it will suspend all activities in the arena of the Sports and Fitness Center from Oct. 20 through Nov. 19 while repairs are made to the portable wooden basketball floor. The work — including sanding, resurfacing and painting — will be completed in time for Paradise Jam Tournament 2003, which opens Nov. 21. Repairs are being made as part of a grant from the U.S. Interior Department.
During the four weeks of repairs the arena, as well as the second level mezzanine, will be unavailable for any functions, since the dust and noise from the work would disturb any activity in those locations.
Physical education classes will relocate to the outside courts next to the Recreation Center from Oct. 20 through Nov. 26. Second-floor classrooms, the bookstore and other offices in the building will remain open. The department regrets any inconveniences as improvements to the facility are being made. For more information call 693-1199.
