Oct. 16, 2003 — Men's and women's fast-pitch softball talent from St. Croix, St. Thomas, Tortola, and two V.I.-based teams made up of players from the Dominican Republic will converge on Cruz Bay Friday for a weekend tournament.
Action in the 2003 Gwen Abramson Fast Pitch Softball Tournament, hosted by the Ambassadors Softball Club, will start in the Winston Wells Ballpark at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, with a ladies' round-robin division game between the Croixettes and Tortola.
There will be six teams in the men's division: Acucareros (St. Croix), Ambassadors (St. John), Crucians (St. Croix), Dominicanos (St. Thomas), St. Thomas All-Stars, and Tortola All-Stars.
The women's division will have the same high level of competition, a release said, but with three teams: Croixettes (St. Croix), St. John All-Stars, and Tortola All-Stars.
Following the Croixettes vs. Tortola Friday evening will be Ambassadors vs. Dominicanos, Acucareros vs. St. Thomas All-Stars, and nightcap game, Tortola men's team vs. Crucians.
Saturday's action begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes all day and into the night. If necessary, Tournament championship games will be on Sunday.
