TYING THE KNOT AT MAHO

With its pristine white sands, azure waters and tropical breezes, Maho Bay has long been a honeymoon favorite. However, couples are now enjoying the destination's Caribbean brand of romance for their wedding ceremony as well. A wedding ceremony on the beach at sunset followed by a dinner and reception in an open-air pavilion with outrageous views of the ocean is becoming more appealing than the more traditional approaches.
Melissa and Scott Seibold, who got married in May said, "We had our wedding at Maho with 52 of our closest friends. It was an amazing relaxing event. We were amazed how everything was beyond our expectations. My family loved it. They want to retire to the island."
Reverend Anne Marie Porter, an inter-denominational minister, officiated at the wedding and assisted the couple in working out all aspects of their nuptials. From obtaining the marriage license to locating a photographer, florist, jeweler, religiously-affiliated officiate and band, Porter lent her expertise to all aspects of the ceremony and celebration.
Not only is Maho an intimate place for a wedding, it's reasonably priced. Nestled amidst the island's lush foliage are Maho's tent-cottages, providing an intimate tree-house-like setting. For the bride and groom, the resort offers a variety of earth-friendly accommodations, all showcasing the latest in conservation, recycling and site restoration.
And in their Fall Winter 2003 issue, Islands Weddings and Honeymoons magazine listed St. John and Maho Bay Camps as one of 20 top water destinations in the world for honeymoons. Citing the St. John shoreline as one of the most pristine in the Caribbean, they wrote about well-marked coastal trails leading to aquamarine bays, the ruins of old Danish plantations, and mysterious petroglyphs that predate Columbus. They suggest strolling along together along fascinating paths like the Leinster Bay Trail or joining an informative ranger-led walk along the Reef Bay Trail. For nature lovers they recommend snuggling within earshot of the ocean by overnighting in the national park at the deluxe private camp at Maho Bay
Further to the topic, the United States Virgin Islands was named one of the top 10 honeymoon destinations by the annual Modern Bride's World's Best Honeymoons survey, to be released in Modern Bride's October 2003 issue. The magazine surveyed 3,000 travel agents specializing in honeymoon vacations asking them to choose their 10 most highly recommended locations for honeymoon travel. The travel agents cited the unique combination of romantic seclusion and exciting activities makes America's Caribbean one of the most sought after destinations for newlyweds. The islands offer a variety of settings, activities and accommodations to create the perfect honeymoon for every couple. St. John is the perfect setting for newlyweds interested in getting away from it all. With two-thirds of the island reserved as a national park, its natural beauty is unsurpassed and easily enjoyed. Camping, hiking, snorkeling or just relaxing are all wonderful ways to experience St. John's tropical paradise.
Weddings and honeymoons in the Virgin Islands have never been so interesting.
