MAYPOLE IS CENTER OF MAYFAIR DAY EVENTS

May 9, 2003 – It was Mayfair Day at All Saints Cathedral School on on St. Thomas Friday, with the student body of nearly 300 and faculty taking part in an open house, a special lunch, singing and dancing, and the highlight of it all — the platting of a huge maypole.
"Every one was involved," one student said. The middle school classes set up a café with wait staff and formal seating for lunch. The lower school classes displayed their artwork and made special presentations. Even the junior kindergarten children took part, with an "alphabet jungle" presentation at midday for parents and guardians.
In the early afternoon, the elementary classes performed songs and dances for their fellow students, from merengue and salsa to a rendition of "America the Beautiful" on the handbells.
Mayfair Day 2003 was the idea of longtime Principal Louise Brady, who wanted to rejuvenate a traditional activity that was a prominent part of the school calendar in years gone by.
The events were a prelude to a three-hour art auction Friday night to raise money for the school's capital development program.
