May 7, 2003 — Summer Enrichment Program Inc. applications are available at Sen. Carlton "Ital" Dowe's office. There are 40 slots available for students who are in or have completed the 4th or 5th grade, said a release.
Now in its third year, the program will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for six weeks at Charlotte Amalie High School, beginning Monday, June 16, through Friday, July 25. During the morning session, academic training in English, math and science will be highlighted. Afternoon sessions will include field trips, arts and crafts activities and guest lectures. Free lunch and afternoon snack will be provided through the V.I. Education Department's Division of Special Nutrition program.
The goals are to impart the necessary tools and instruction that will strengthen academic skills, increase cultural and community awareness, and build the confidence and self-esteem of all participants, said the release. The program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts.
The cost is $75 per student. Anyone interested in having their child or children participate may contact Mariath Hodge or Beatrice Fleming at 693-3671 or 693-3597.
