April 30, 2003 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands invites St. Thomas and St. John public and private school students in the 10th and 11th grades to apply for the foundation’s 2003 Summer Enrichment Program Scholarship.
Offered for the first time, the MLC/ISS Fund at CFVI will award scholarships to students seeking to attend academically rigorous enrichment programs.
To qualify for a scholarship, a student must:
— Be a 10th or 11th grader in a public or private high school in St. Thomas or St. John.
— Be accepted in/or have applied to a summer enrichment program.
— Have an average cumulative GPA of at least 85.
— Demonstrate financial need.
The donors are interested in funding students with financial need to attend excellent programs, said CFVI's Dee Baecher-Brown. But since this is the first offer, funding will in part be determined by the quality of the applications. The donors recognize that these programs may require considerable tuition, board, and/or airfare for some applicants.
Priority will be given to applications that demonstrate a student’s accomplishments both in school and in the community. Quality of the enrichment program will also be an important consideration.
Applications are due at CFVI no later than May 15, but applicants are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible. Applications will be considered on an as-received basis.
Awards will be announced by May 30th.
