SPRAUVE STUDENTS WALK FOR KIDS IN AFRICA

April 21, 2003 – Julius E. Sprauve students are raising money for a well to be dug at a school in Kenya, and you can help by joining the Sprauve students in their walk-a-thon.
Funds will go toward digging a well at the Merrueshi Primary School in Maasailand, about 180 miles southeast of Nairobi. The African students currently must walk seven miles to get water for the school.
The April 29 walk on St. John is only 1 ½ miles. The hike leaves at 8:30 a.m. from the V.I. National Park Visitor's Center. The walk-a-thon will head up one of the trails in the Cruz Bay area.
The walk-a-thon is part of a year-long campaign to raise money for the Kenyan students. The Sprauve students also have held bake sales and collected cans for recycling to raise the money.
Students participating in the hike include those from grades four, five and six as well as the gifted/talented and MIS I Intermediate classes.
If you're not up for the walk, you can still help by making a donation. Make checks to the Julius E. Sprauve School – Kenya Fund.
Call Sprauve Principal Shirley Joseph at 776-6336 for information about making a donation.
