April 21, 2003 – Nominations are now being accepted by the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands for its second annual Silverbells and Cockleshells awards.
The awards are made to individuals, organizations or other groups that operate programs or projects that significantly impact the lives of children and families. Nominations are due by May 28.
The winners will receive cash awards, recognition at a ceremony and mention in the 2003 Kids Count data book.
Any individual, group or organization may propose others for consideration or nominate themselves. The programs and projects nominated must already be operating.
Last year, the first in which the awards were presented, nine community groups and individuals shared $5,000 in award money. (For a list of the 2002 winners, see the final section of "V.I. poverty rate rising, Kids Count report says".)
Nomination forms may be picked up at the CFVI office, Suite 2C in Royal Dane Mall on St. Thomas, next to Beans, Bytes and Websites. They also may be requested by calling 774-6031. That's the number to call for further information, too.
