April 8, 2003 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
UVI Advisement and Registration Period Continues; Web Registration Available
For the first time, students are able to complete the registration process online, via the Internet. Individuals who make use of online registration have the advantage of getting first access to courses before they are filled. The process is available to any continuing, matriculated students who have access to the Internet at home or on campus.
Remaining Registration Schedule – April 2, 2003 thru April 9, 2003
Tuesday, April 8 — Open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesday, April 9 — Open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Students who experience problems with online registration or those with general questions regarding registration should contact the Office of the Registrar at 693-1160 or 693-1161 on St. Thomas or the Academic Services Office at 692-4158 on St. Croix.
Class schedules for both the fall and summer sessions and an academic calendar are available via the Academics section of the UVI Web page.
St. Thomas Campus Service Awards Set April 9
The 2002/2003 Service Awards program for employees on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the Sports and Fitness Center.
St. Croix Campus Service Awards Set April 10
The 2002/2003 Service Awards program for employees on UVI's St. Croix campus is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Room 401 of the Melvin Evans Center.
CTO Secretary General to Lecture on St. Thomas, St. Croix Campuses
UVI's Social Sciences Division presents its Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Jean S. Holder, secretary general of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) on April 10 and 11. Holder will speak on the topic "The State of Tourism in the Caribbean after 9-11." Holder has worked in tourism in the Caribbean for more than 25 years.
Holder's lecture is open to all members of the community, but Dr. Dion Phillips, chairman of the Social Sciences Division on the St. Thomas campus, hopes that those directly involved in tourism will attend. "None of us are exempt from the rippling effects of terrorism," Phillips said.
Holder's presentation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Room 222 of the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus. The lecture will be held on the St. Croix campus at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, in the theater of the Melvin Evans Center (Room 401). For more information call Mary Dickinson at 693-1260.
Final Weekend of "Merchant of Venice" Begins Friday
Theater lovers have one more weekend to catch the spring production of "The Merchant of Venice" at the UVI Little Theatre on the St. Thomas campus. More than 200 people turned out for the open weekend of the play, which is being produced by the UVI speech communications and theatre department. The play continues with 8 p.m. performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 11-13. Tickets, which cost $5 students and $10 for adults, are available at the UVI Bookstore and the Humanities Building on the St. Thomas campus, Nisky Pharmacy, Parrotfish on Back Street and Dockside Bookstore in Havensight Mall. SBDC Offers Time Management Seminar April 8 on St. Croix
UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host a time management workshop from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the UVI SBDC training center, Sunshine Mall, St. Croix. For details or to pre-register call 692-5270.
Workshops to Focus on Changing Nature of Work in 21st Century
"The Changing Nature of the World of Work in the 21st Century" will be the subject of free workshops offered at UVI's St. Croix campus on April 9 and 10. Sponsored by the division of student affairs – counseling and placement office, the workshops will be conducted by Richard L. Knowdell, a job and career transition coach and author.
Session One is designed for working individuals, including UVI faculty and staff members and anyone seeking professional development. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Carambola Beach Resort.
Session Two is designed for high school, college and graduate students. It takes place from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in the UVI Research and Extension Center Room 133 on the St. Croix campus.
Each session is limited to 40 individuals. To register, call 692-4180 or 692-4187.
Seminar to Focus on Developments in V.I. Fish Farming Systems
UVI's Water Resources Research Institute and the Agricultural Experiment Station invites the public to a seminar entitled "Commercial Fish Farming Systems for the Virgin Islands: Recent Research Developments at UVI" at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, on St. Croix from in the Research and Extension Center Room 133, and again on St. Thomas at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Sports and Fitness Center Training Room. Dr. James Rakocy, AES Director and Research Professor of Aquaculture, will be the presenter. For more information call 693-1069.
Computer Literacy Exams Scheduled April 22
The computer literacy Exams (CLE) will be offered on the St. Thomas campus Tuesday, April 22. Exams will be administered in rooms 101 or 103 of the CA Building. Sign-up sheets for those interested are available in the registrar's office from noon to 2 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays.
Future of V.I. Agriculture to be Topic of April 22-23 Forum on St. Croix
The future of agriculture in the U.S. Virgin Islands will be the topic of a forum for farmers scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 22 and 23 in the theatre of the Melvin Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus. The forum theme is "Prospects for Sustainable Agriculture in the Virgin Islands." It will address issues of agricultural policy, training, funding, marketing and production. Registration costs $20 and covers materials and lunches.
All farmers, agricultural educators, policy makers and prospective farmers are invited to participate. For more information call 692-4061 or 692-4060. The forum is sponsored by the UVI Cooperative Extension Service and Agricultural Experiment Station, the V.I. Agriculture Department and Farmers in Action. More information and a registration form are available on the Internet.
SBDC Plans QuickBooks Workshop April 24 on St. Croix
UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be conducting a workshop on the QuickBooks Pro 2001 computer application from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the UVI SBDC training center, Sunshine Mall Lower Level, St. Croix.
