ST. CROIX NAMED A 'HEALTH CARE SHORTAGE AREA'

April 8, 2003 – The federal government recently approved an application designating St. Croix as a "primary health-care shortage area" for the low-income population, according to a release from Government House.
The designation will allow the St. Croix district to access federal health-care programs available to shortage-area communities. One such program is the National Health Service Corps, which has primary care doctors, dentists, nurse practitioners, midwives and other health-care professionals seeking shortage-area positions.
The NHSC also has a sizeable loan repayment program for health professionals who work or wish to work in primary care facilities serving low-income communities.
For more information, call the V.I. Primary Health Care Office at 715-1611 or 715-3219.
