Jan. 7, 2003 – Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer Electrician Myron G. Dalmida, a 1978 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, was promoted to Electrician Mate Master Chief Petty Officer Officer on Jan. 1, 2003.
The ceremony for Dalmida's latest promotion was held at the Coast Guard's Integrated Support Command in Miami, Fla. His promotion comes at a time when the Coast Guard is experiencing a shortage of electrician mates and is soliciting for students from the enlisted core within the Coast Guard.
"This is an excellent opportunity for students graduating from high schools who are thinking about opportunities in the Coast Guard," Master Chief Dalmida said. "They can enlist, attend school within a very short period, and become an electrician." A Coast Guard Internet release indicates the current waiting list to attend school has only two students, for classes scheduled up until summer of 2003.
Electricians in the Coast Guard inspect, maintain and repair generators, motors, controllers, communications systems, and distribution of electricity, shipboard machinery and shore power systems. The Coast Guard offers electrician mates a wide variety of assignments and opportunities including in engineering, Aids to Navigation, naval engineering support, and all major Coast Guard Cutter classes.
Master Chief Dalmida is responsible for the well-being of 30 enlisted personnel, a roster that ranges from engineering machine technicians, damage control technicians, electricians mates to administrative store-keepers. He is responsible for the coordination and maintenance support of the engineering facilities at the Coast Guard base in Miami Beach.
His earlier assignments were based in Hawaii; Guam; New Orleans, La.; St. Louis, Mo.; Groton, Conn.; Boston, Mass.; Governors Island, N.Y.; Panama City, Fla.; and Kodiak, Alaska. His awards include three Coast Guard Achievement Medals, two Commandant's Letters of Commendation, seven Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals, one Special Operations, two Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense, and a Coast Guard Sea Service with two bronze stars.
