Jan. 6, 2002 – The 50th Anniversary Crucian Christmas Festival has definitely been one for the history books, with impressive parades, huge crowds turned out to see them and weather that cooperated all the way.
Saturday's Adults' Parade was the highlight, with scores of floupes and troupes, hundreds of marching majorettes, throngs of thousands on the sidelines and even Jam Band on hand from St. Thomas. There was more to come on Sunday — a children's fun day at Romneyville and a Latin Night show.
The grand finale comes Monday night with the Christiansted fireworks show at 10 p.m., to be followed by another hour or so for a last lap or two through the Village before it shuts down at midnight.
Plans call for still more festival events later this year, however. As with the 50th Anniversary V.I. Carnival festivities on St. Thomas last year, the organizers have arranged for half-centenary celebrations on St. Croix to extend over a whole year. With some appropriated funds yet to materialize, several events had to be canceled or postponed, festival committee treasurer Lawrence A. Bastian said last week. But no matter what happens next, festival fans will have memories of "A Golden Spree for the World to See: It's Crucian Festival 2003."
